Search Engine Submissions
Search Engine Submissions: Optimization, Minimum Program, Noticeable Impact,
Google Yahoo MSN
Search engine submissions are a scandalously over-hyped service that has little benefit.
Many search engines and search sites exist, but three engines,
Google, Yahoo! and MSN, dominate the Internet by delivering more than 90% of all search results through their respective sites and affiliated search sites.
(Difference
Between Search Engines and Search Sites)
Search Engine Submissions: Google, Yahoo! and MSN – the Recommended Minimum
If Google, Yahoo and MSN already have your site indexed and ranked, then
no need exists to re-submit the site to them or other search engines after optimization, unless the other engines are industry-specific and have proven value.
| |
 |
Some new search engines, such as Amazon's A9, may not have a site indexed, so a submission might be worthwhile in that case, though this and other
new search sites have yet to make a noticeable dent in the Big
3's market share.
|
| |
 |
For new web sites, Google, Yahoo! and MSN will accept a submission of its existence, but
search engine spiders would much prefer to discover your site via a link from another
meaningful site, which adds to your site's legitimacy and
provides the engines with a better understanding of your site's
theme.
|
| |
 |
Submitting your new site to these engines will not decrease the time to be listed or improve your rankings. We do not recommend submitting new sites to Google,
Yahoo! or MSN. Instead, we create the necessary links to alert
search engines about the existence of your new, relevant site. Our new
sites are usually found and indexed within a few days. |
Search Engine Submissions: Other Search Engines
It cannot hurt to have your site listed with other search engines, especially
industry-specific sites, though those are more limited
directory services,
such as the
Thomas Register,
rather
than true listings of all relevant sites on the web.
Most other search engines find sites the same way the "Big 3" do, so
a well
optimized site should be found by other engines, such as Ask Jeeves, AOL,
MySearch, MAMMA, or Netscape.
